Pros:
- Set up is fairly easy.
- Scans are great and prints are great too.
- From a PC, it can also simulate duplex printing by printing one side and then it prompts you, with pictures, to re-insert the document back into the printer in a particular way and it will take care of the rest.
- The wireless is extremely easy to set up and works perfectly.
- Can print from virtually any format without a computer to any size output. From slides, negatives, videos, scans, CD/DVD’s and four different memory card sizes, images are input into the printer, you do a little editing and then VOILA —print out 4 x 6, 5 x 7, 8 x 10, passport, video still-capture image, or any combination of photos sizes.
- Completely dry immediately.
- Easy, plain English prompts and instructions. Another plus is the well-written instruction manual.
- Touch screen instructions are easy to following.
- Advantage of having a CD/DVD Drive built into the printer allows for quick and easy copying and burning on documents/photos/etc.
- This printer is excellent at printing photos. The clarity and color is exceptional.
- It cleans itself when it does a lot of prints.
- The idea of a separate tray for 4×6 prints and being able to print photos without a computer alone make this all-in-one worth the money.
- It takes six separate ink cartridges… that way if one is low, you only need to replace that color. Also, the ink cartridges couldn’t be easier to install.
- The software prints from last to first page so you don’t have to organize paper after a print job comes off the printer.
Cons:
- No fax.
- Cannot make permanent changes to some of the default settings, like scan location, scan resolution, brightness.
- Software is a little buggy.
- It doesn’t come with a USB Cable.
- Be aware there are some functions, such as some features of the LightScribe, DVD burning, which will not work unless you connect directly to the computer.
- Cannot be connected to both network mode and USB mode at the same time and switching between them is not trivial.
- No automatic duplex printing.

Professional verdict:
- “A much improved all-in-one printer with a user-friendly touch-screen operation, DVD/CD burner, improved scanning quality and automated small photo feeder. A fax engine would have been nice, though.” Read full review
- “The C8180 multifunctional printer is an excellent choice for photo enthusiasts. It prints high-quality text and photos at a heavy price: the printer is s…l…o…w. If you always choose quality over speed, the c8180 will be a worthwhile addition to your digital toolshed.” Read full review
- “The HP Photosmart C8180 All-in-One is a color inkjet multifunction printer that’s designed to be a one-stop photo-processing shop rather than an office workhorse. Its wealth of features–most notably, a DVD-rewritable drive–comes at a significant cost, however.” Read full review
- “The HP Photosmart C8180 All-In-One (AIO) almost demands two ratings—one that considers price and one that doesn’t. With its touch-screen menu controls, built-in DVD dual-layer drive with LightScribe for archiving files and labeling discs, and—above all—its high-quality output, it’s a seductive package. But although it earns high marks for features I’d really like to have in a photocentric AIO, it pairs them with slow speed and weak paper handling. That would be a fine compromise at a lower price, but at $399.99 (direct), the minuses drag the C8180′s rating down from the stratospheric levels it would otherwise deserve.” Read full review
